Sacred time and textual time
In tradition, Rama lived in Treta Yuga. Scholars date the composition of the Valmiki Ramayana roughly between the 5th century BCE and the 3rd century CE, with later additions. The sites associated with the story are places of living devotion; they are not presented here as a verified archaeological itinerary.
