What Dev Uthani Ekadashi means
The end of Chaturmas
From Devshayani to Prabodhini Ekadashi, marriages, griha pravesh, mundan and upanayana are put off. From the day after, the muhurat season opens — see our muhurat pages for the dates.
Tulasi Vivah
The next day (Dwadashi) Tulasi is married to Vishnu as Shaligrama or Krishna — in Karnataka, Tulasi habba or Utthana Dwadashi.
Pandharpur
Kartiki Ekadashi brings lakhs of Varkari pilgrims to Vitthala in Pandharpur.
Vishnu’s long sleep
Who is in it: Vishnu, Lakshmi
Vishnu, busy protecting the worlds, sometimes stayed awake for ages and then slept for ages, and the worlds suffered when he slept without notice.
Lakshmi asked him to keep a fixed time of rest, so that devotees and devas alike could plan for it.
Vishnu agreed: from Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi he would rest four months in yoga-nidra on Shesha, and wake on Kartika Shukla Ekadashi.
He promised that whoever served him through those months and woke him with devotion on Prabodhini would have his blessing.

Have the Dev Uthani Ekadashi puja done for you
Two ways to do it. At a temple: the pandit takes your family’s name and gotra in the sankalpa and sends you the photos and video. At home: a pandit from our panel comes to you with the vidhi, and you sit for the puja yourself.
Where this comes from
- Padma Purana, Uttara Khanda, for Prabodhini Ekadashi.
- Bhavishya Purana for Chaturmas.
How we work out the dates: Stuti Mandir’s own panchanga engine places the Sun and Moon (Lahiri ayanamsa) and checks the tithi against sunrise, sunset and moonrise in Bengaluru, in IST. A printed panchanga may differ by a minute or so. Where your family’s panchanga or your purohita says otherwise, go with them.

When is Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2026?
Saturday, 21 November 2026. In Bengaluru, Kartika Shukla Ekadashi (amanta; Kartik Shukla Ekadashi in the North Indian count) begins Fri, 20 Nov, 07:16 AM and ends Sat, 21 Nov, 06:32 AM IST.

Will Mysuru and Delhi keep Dev Uthani Ekadashi on the same day?
Mostly yes. But the sun rises and sets at different times in different towns, and a habba is kept on the day its tithi is running at the right hour — so timings shift, and once in a while the date does too. Change the town above to see yours.

Yes — Chaturmas ends, and the marriage and griha pravesh season opens, subject to the other muhurat rules. See the muhurat pages for the dates.
When is Tulasi Vivah?
On Dwadashi, the day after Prabodhini Ekadashi, in most homes; some do it on the Ekadashi evening or up to Kartika Purnima.
Can I book a Tulasi Vivah or Vishnu puja with a pandit?
Yes. Book a Tulasi Vivah or Satyanarayana puja at home, or on live video, with a Stuti Mandir pandit.
