The pindas of rice, barley flour and sesame are made and offered with mantras, followed by tarpan.

  4. 4

By boat to the Sangam point, where the pindas (and the asthi, for visarjan) are immersed.

Questions devotees ask us

What is the Triveni Sangam?

The confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna and the hidden Saraswati at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh — called Tirtharaj, the king of pilgrimage places. A dip here, and rites for the ancestors, are held to be especially meritorious.

What is the best time for pind daan at Prayagraj?

Pind daan can be done on any day. The most auspicious times are Pitru Paksha (Mahalaya Paksha), every Amavasya, and the Magh Mela snan days — especially Mauni Amavasya.

Can asthi visarjan be done at Prayagraj on any day?

Yes. Families usually go within the first ten days after the cremation, by boat to the Sangam point, with a short puja and tarpan; the tirth purohit guides each step.

How much does pind daan cost at Prayagraj?

It depends on the ritual, the number of pandits, the boat and the daana. On Stuti Mandir a shraddha starts from ₹4,100 and tripindi shraddha from ₹9,100; a planning call is ₹501, and the full cost is confirmed before you pay.

What are the Magh Mela 2027 snan dates?

Makar Sankranti: Friday, 15 January 2027; Paush Purnima: Friday, 22 January 2027; Mauni Amavasya: Saturday, 6 February 2027; Basant Panchami: Thursday, 11 February 2027; Maghi Purnima: Saturday, 20 February 2027; Maha Shivratri: Saturday, 6 March 2027.

Saturday, 6 February 2027 — the biggest snan day of the Magh Mela, when pilgrims bathe at the Sangam in silence.

Can pind daan be done online if we cannot travel to Prayagraj?

Yes. A pandit at the Sangam performs it in your family’s name with your gotra and the names of the ancestors, and you watch on video.

What is Veni daan?

A rite unique to Prayag, in which married women offer a lock of hair at the Sangam for the long life of their husbands.

Can daughters perform pind daan?

Traditionally the son performs it; when there is no son, the Garuda Purana and the tirth purohits of Prayag allow a daughter, wife or other relative to perform the rites. The pandit guides your family.
