About Ugadi Panchanga Sravanam
What is Ugadi Panchanga Sravanam?
On Ugadi (Telugu and Kannada New Year) the pandit performs the new-year pooja and reads the panchangam for the year (Panchanga Sravanam) — the year’s forecast for rains, harvest and each rashi.
Hearing the panchangam on Ugadi is believed to bring the merit of a holy dip in the Ganga. The day begins with an oil bath, new clothes and Ugadi pachadi of six tastes (neem, jaggery, tamarind, salt, chilli and raw mango).
