What is Maha Ganapathi Homam?
Maha Ganapathi Homam is the fire ritual to Lord Ganesha with offerings of modakams, durva grass and ghee while chanting the Ganapati moola mantra and Ganapati Atharvashirsha, done before any new beginning.
It is the first homam in most homes — at griha pravesh, business openings and before other homams — because Ganesha removes obstacles. The traditional offering is the ashta dravya: modakam, aval, malar, sugarcane, banana, sesame, coconut and jaggery.
