Pujas for harmony in marriage

Marriage Anniversary Pooja

A Marriage Anniversary Pooja thanks God for the years together and seeks blessings for the years ahead — usually a Shiva–Parvati or Lakshmi–Narayana puja with the couple’s sankalpa, often with Satyanarayana katha, done at home on the anniversary day or on milestone years like the 25th (silver) and 50th (golden).

  • Thanksgiving for the married life so far
  • Blessings for harmony, health and togetherness
  • Blessings of elders and the family on the day

Mangala Gowri Vratham

Mangala Gowri Vratham is the worship of Goddess Gowri (Parvati) on the Tuesdays of Shravana masa by newly married women, for a long and happy married life — kept for the first five years after marriage.

  • Long life and well-being of the husband
  • A happy, harmonious married life
  • Blessings of Gowri for children and the family

Swarna Gowri Vratham

Swarna Gowri Vratham — Gowri Habba in Karnataka — is the worship of Goddess Gowri (Parvati) on Bhadrapada Shukla Tritiya, the day before Ganesha Chaturthi, kept by married women for a happy married life and by young women for a good husband.

  • Blessings of Gowri for a long and happy married life
  • For unmarried women, a good husband and a harmonious home
  • Prosperity and well-being of the family

Satyanarayana Pooja

Satyanarayana Pooja (Satyanarayana Vratham) is the worship of Lord Vishnu as Satyanarayana, the embodiment of truth, described in the Skanda Purana. Families perform it to give thanks and seek blessings — after a housewarming or wedding, on birthdays and new jobs, and on Purnima (full moon).

  • Thanksgiving for a new home, marriage, child or job
  • Peace, prosperity and harmony in the family
  • Fulfilment of vows (mokku) taken during difficult times
