What Ram Navami means
Born at noon
Valmiki places Rama’s birth at noon on Navami with Punarvasu nakshatra and Karka lagna, so the main puja is at Madhyahna.
Panakam and kosambari
In Karnataka and the South, jaggery-pepper panakam, neer majjige (buttermilk) and kosambari are the naivedya — cooling in the summer heat.
Sita Rama Kalyanam
Bhadrachalam in Telangana holds the divine wedding of Sita and Rama on this day; temples and homes across the Telugu states do the same.

Getting ready
- 1Fast from the morning; clean the puja room; decorate a small cradle.

- 1At Madhyahna (noon), worship Rama’s idol or picture with Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman.
- 2Place baby Rama in the cradle and rock it with songs.
- 3Read the Bala Kanda birth chapter or chant Rama Raksha Stotra.
- 4Offer panakam, kosambari, neer majjige and fruit.
Closing the puja
