What is Shiva Abhishekam?

Shiva is called Abhisheka Priya — the one who loves abhishekam. Each offering is a prayer: milk for peace, curd for progeny, honey for sweetness in speech, ghee for prosperity and water for purity. The abhishekam is done with the Namakam–Chamakam or Om Namah Shivaya, and ends with bilva leaves offered with the 108 names.

A shorter form of Rudrabhishekam, Shiva Abhishekam suits a weekly Monday puja, the Solah Somvar vrata, Pradosham evenings and the Shravana and Kartika months, when Shiva worship is considered especially fruitful.
