About Diwali Lakshmi Puja

About this puja

On the evening of Deepavali Amavasya, families and traders worship Mahalakshmi together with Ganapati and Kubera. At home it is a prayer for a well-run, prosperous year; in a shop or office the pandit also blesses the new account books, the cash box and the weighing scale.

The puja is fixed in Pradosha kala, ideally inside a steady (sthira) lagna such as Vrishabha, so that the wealth that comes in stays. A clean, lamp-lit house is part of the puja itself.
