About Rudrabhishekam
About this puja
Rudrabhishekam is the ritual bathing (abhishekam) of a Shiva Lingam while the Sri Rudram — the Namakam and Chamakam from the Krishna Yajurveda — is chanted. It is performed for health, peace and the removal of sins, especially on Mondays, Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri and in the Karthika and Shravana months.
The Sri Rudram praises Shiva in his fierce and benevolent forms and asks for protection and every good thing in life. Chanting it while pouring sacred substances over the lingam is considered one of the most powerful Shiva poojas that can be done at home.
